guess i never learned to survive
in between the burn of the city lights and the cold city peoples' eyes
never learned how to melt like they seemed to
but i learned how to lie
and lied my way onto some old sailing pile of tied up sticks
couldn't know where to go
so i steered for the storm
can't call me a castaway
this was my idea
i cast myself into the sea
and you all just let me go
so i'm out here alone
begging ships to pass by me
guess i never learned how to drive
couple of miles and the raft capsized
and i held on for dear life
crooked fingers gripping driftwood
like i never learned how to swim
can't call me a castaway
this was my own plan
i had no home in my homeland
and nobody misses me save the surrounding sea
here on this sandbar where i stand
my old man used to get a laugh at passers-by
he'd yell "IGNORE ME!!!!" and he'd cackle when they couldn't comply
sometimes i feel like him
out here on my island
singing "please just pass me by..."
